The Mark Labow Award

FIPS General News

The Mark Labow Award is created and sponsored by Dr. Sam Labow to honour his brother Mark Labow, the founding president of Fédération Internationale des Patrouilles de Ski (“FIPS”).

The award is presented on the occasion of each FIPS Congress to an individual or organization who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the aims and objectives of FIPS.

The award is managed by a Board of Trustees which has full discretion as to the selection process and any other matters. The Board is made of four Trustees, in the event of the resignation, death or incapacity or refusal to act of any Trustee, the remaining Trustees shall promptly appoint another Trustee in his stead.

The first presentation of this award will take place at the 18th FIPS Congress, April 2011.

Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine

General News

Marie let us know about the Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine --thank you Marie!--; it was founded in 2009 and is a branch of EURAC-European Academy of Bolzano.

From the Institute's presentation page, we understand that "Its main aim is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of casualties and acutely ill patients in mountainous regions by raising the standard of Alpine emergency medicine to an internationally recognised ‘evidence-based’ level.".

In their agenda there is work shop scheduled in spring 2011 on mountain Emergency Medicine for Europe. At this moment on their website there is no mention of this meeting but we will keep you updated.

Ski Patrol Olympics in Squaw Valley

Hans Gerremo, from SLAO, let us know --thank you Hans-- that from Aprlil 16th to April 18th Squaw Valley ski resort will host the SKI PATROL OLYMPICS.

On March, 27th the Ski patrollers' Professional board of our Region organized the test to access the upcoming ski patrolling course.

Fiftyseven candidates attended the selection and had to face four exercises to exhibit their capabilities.
